Early Tuesday morning, Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin made an unexpected visit to the Command and Control Centre at the Greater Chennai Corporation headquarters. This facility is crucial for the continuous surveillance of city-wide issues, including rainfall, traffic movements using subway cameras, and monitoring water levels in city drains.
The 24/7 operational centre aims to ensure quick responses to urban challenges. Following a day of inspections across several Corporation zones, Stalin revisited the centre to assess its functioning without prior notice. He checked complaints made via the 1913 helpline, verifying their log and subsequent actions taken.
Engaging with staff members, he delved into grievance management on social media, examining complaints, source material like photos and videos, and the communication workflow. Importantly, Stalin evaluated how swiftly issues were escalated to zonal officers and how efficiently they were resolved, even analyzing real-time CCTV footage to ensure smooth urban operations.
