The Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department has directed the Kanchipuran District Collector to issue a flood warning for residents living along the Palar River's banks. This warning comes after 10,626 cubic feet per second of surplus water was discharged from the Palar dam, potentially increasing with continuous rainfall in the region.
Residents have been urged to stay away from the river for safety reasons, refraining from crossing, bathing in, or using the river for domestic chores. With heavy rainfall affecting many parts of Tamil Nadu, including Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, and the Delta districts, intense rainfall alerts have been issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin conducted an inspection of the Adyar River and reviewed rain-related measures. He emphasized prompt action on public complaints and stressed the importance of maintaining efficiency in rice procurement processes. The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued orange and yellow alerts due to weather systems in the surrounding seas contributing to the region's moisture.
