NCW Ensures Support for Acid Attack Victim; Calls for Rigorous Legal Action

The commission demands strict legal action while reaffirming its commitment to women's safety. The student, assaulted outside Laxmi Bai College, is now stable.

Archana Majumdar, a prominent figure in the National Commission for Women (NCW), announced on Monday the commission's proactive measures in providing immediate medical care, counselling, and rehabilitation for the 20-year-old Delhi University student attacked with acid by a stalker. Majumdar emphasized the need for stringent legal proceedings, reaffirming the NCW's dedication to women's safety and dignity.
The incident occurred outside Laxmi Bai College in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar, where the student, part of the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB), was attacked. The student has been reported stable and is soon to be discharged from Ram Manohar Lohia hospital, as per sources. Dr Manraj Gurjar, the college proctor, clarified that the attack happened outside the college premises.
The Delhi Police have identified the main suspect as Jitender, accompanied by Ishan and Arman, who allegedly assaulted the student on a motorcycle. The victim's attempts to protect herself resulted in injuries to her hands. Following preliminary investigations by the Crime and FSL Teams, a case pertaining to the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita has been filed, and further investigations are underway.
