Renewed Scrutiny on CBI's Sushant Singh Rajput Case Closure

The CBI's closure report on actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death is under fresh scrutiny from the actor's family, alleging missing documents and inconclusive findings. Advocate Varun Singh points to the lack of access to critical annexures, hindering potential legal challenges. The family plans to contest the report when full documentation is received.

Nearly five years after the passing of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the closure report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) faces renewed examination. The late actor's family, through Advocate Varun Singh, claims that the agency submitted an "incomplete and inconclusive" report, withholding key supporting documents, thereby impeding any legal challenge to its conclusions.

The CBI's report, filed in March 2025, exonerated Rhea Chakraborty and other accused individuals named in the FIR, stating a lack of evidence to indicate confinement, threats, or criminal activity against Rajput. However, Advocate Singh argues that the report is deficient, as several critical annexures and materials have not been disclosed despite repeated court orders from the Patna court demanding their release.

"We intend to move the court, but the primary obstacle is the absence of the complete set of documents accompanying the closure report. Without them, filing a protest petition is impossible," Singh explained. He emphasized that a protest petition is a complainant's right to challenge a closure report, and magistrates possess the authority to continue proceedings upon discovering inconsistencies. Singh criticized the CBI's handling of financial evidence and questioned their silence on digital evidence reports from America, suggesting that important materials were omitted from the case file provided to the court.
