The death toll from the explosion at Mundathikode's fireworks manufacturing unit has risen to 15 after the death of Satheesh, the licensee, from severe burns. Having endured over 80% burn injuries in the April 21 incident, Satheesh passed away in the burns ICU at Thrissur Medical College, police reported.
Authorities confirmed that Satheesh held the license for the unit, which exploded just days before the Thrissur Pooram festival. Intense search operations are ongoing as the condition of three more injured remains critical, with the unit's total workforce at the time counting 38.
Search efforts persist for the four missing, with DNA testing underway to identify recovered body parts. In response, both Thiruvambadi Devaswom and Paramekkavu Devaswom temples have decided to scale back the festival's celebrations, while maintaining essential rituals.
