A year has passed since ‘ponywallah’ Adil Hussain Shah sacrificed his life to save tourists during the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, leaving his widow Gulnaz Akhtar to fend for herself. Adil, the sole breadwinner, was killed while attempting to snatch a gun from one of the terrorists in a courageous effort to protect his charges.

Following Adil’s tragic death, Gulnaz moved back with her parents and started working to support herself. The loss of her husband and the financial burden left her grappling with a new harsh reality. She expressed deep grief and pride over Adil’s actions, recounting how he would not tolerate injustice or wrongdoing.

Adil's brother, Naushad, mourns the loss but takes pride in Adil's final act of valor. The incident marked a violent anomaly in Pahalgam, disrupting the peaceful tourism industry that Adil had been part of since 2010. As security forces brought justice by eliminating the perpetrators, the local community continues to cope with the aftermath.
