Blake Lively vs. Justin Baldoni: The Legal Drama Behind 'It Ends With Us'
Blake Lively's sexual harassment claims against co-star Justin Baldoni were largely dismissed, but retaliation claims remain. The federal judge ruled Lively can't claim harassment under Title VII due to her contractor status. However, a jury will hear allegations concerning reputational damage from Baldoni's production company, among other claims.
In a high-profile legal showdown involving celebrities Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, a federal judge has dismissed sexual harassment claims initiated by Lively. These allegations emerged during the production of their film 'It Ends With Us.'
Judge Lewis J. Liman ruled that Lively, categorized as an independent contractor rather than an employee, could not pursue harassment claims under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Despite this, the judge allowed retaliation claims to proceed, potentially enabling a jury to scrutinize the actions of Baldoni's production company.
The court elaborated on the context of the harassment claims, noting incidents where Baldoni's on-set behavior with Lively blurred professional lines. Nevertheless, this conduct was contextualized within their roles as characters. Lively's case, accentuated by the alleged reputational damage, continues with a trial slated for May 18.
