Summer in Sambalpur Zoo: An Oasis for Animals and Visitors
Sambalpur Zoo authorities have implemented summer strategies to keep animals and visitors cool. These include installing air coolers, large ice cubes, and providing special diets for the animals. The zoo also features bamboo sheds, water holes, and storytelling sessions, accommodating 1,000 visitors per day during summer.

As temperatures rise with the onset of summer, Sambalpur Zoo is ensuring a comfortable environment for its inhabitants through innovative cooling methods. The zoo's DFO, Anshu Pragyan, announced new initiatives to combat the heat, including installing air coolers in bear and leopard enclosures.
Bamboo sheds and thatch roofs have been added to the 28 animal enclosures along with water holes, ensuring the animals remain cool. Special diets comprising of water-rich fruits and electrolytes like glucose and ORS are also being provided to keep them hydrated.
In addition to animal welfare, facilities are improved for visitors; the zoo draws in approximately 1,000 daily visitors. New additions such as blackbucks and hogdeers have arrived, while storytelling sessions enhance visitor engagement. With a vast array of species, Sambalpur Zoo is a vital sanctuary for wildlife during these sweltering months.
