Unity in Diversity: Gadkari's Stand on Citizenship and Voting Rights

Nitin Gadkari, Union minister, on Thursday clarified the BJP's position regarding caste, religion, and language, affirming the principle of unity in diversity. Speaking at a poll rally in Assam's Palasbari constituency, he underscored that the Constitution provides guidance on extending voting rights, specifically to certain religious minorities.

Gadkari questioned whether foreign nationals should be granted voting rights, pointing out the potential impact on citizens. He reiterated that while the BJP does not oppose any specific caste or religion, the government's policy aligns with the Constitution's guidance. This was in reference to citizenship provisions for persecuted minorities from neighboring countries, as outlined in the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The minister highlighted significant developments in Assam under the BJP-led government over the last decade, promising continued progress if re-elected. Assam is slated for assembly polls on April 9, with counting set for May 4.
