In south Mumbai, a coalition of local residents, students, and civil society members staged a protest demanding the return of the historic Wilson College Gymkhana to its original owner, Wilson College. The gymkhana has been a community sports hub for over a century.
The event, organized by the Wilson College Alumni Association and several local groups, highlighted the community's loss of access to the facility since it was transferred during the COVID-19 pandemic to the Jain International Organisation (JIO).
Aditya Parab, president of Aamhi Girgaonkar, emphasized the gymkhana's importance for local sports activities. JIO has not commented on the matter yet. The protest will persist until the government restores community access.
