In a dramatic escalation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ramped up its protest against the incumbent Congress government in Karnataka, levying serious corruption allegations against the Excise Department. Leader of the Opposition, R Ashoka, claims to have presented concrete evidence supporting the claims and calls for the immediate resignation of Excise Minister RB Timmapur.
Addressing the media, Ashoka stated that the BJP had initiated a sit-in protest within the Karnataka Assembly premises. Despite facing counterclaims from Congress members like MLA G H Srinivasa, who contested the legitimacy of the allegations, Ashoka asserts this represents 'the biggest loot in Karnataka.'
The protest, which saw BJP legislators spending the night inside the Vidhana Soudha, is now in its second day. The opposition has been reinforced by Janata Dal (Secular), with leader CB Suresh Babu joining the voices demanding action. Meanwhile, BJP MLA CN Ashwath Narayan has intensified the rhetoric, accusing the Excise Department of being a corrupt 'ATM sarkar' with institutionalised graft.
