Madhavi Biswas, a prominent digital content creator in Tripura, was arrested for alleged obscenity on social media, a police spokesperson confirmed on Monday. Known for her bold online critiques of key political leaders, Biswas’s content has attracted both significant attention and controversy.
The arrest was made following a complaint by Paramita Ghosal, prompting law enforcement officers to search her residence at Jogendranagar in West Tripura. A case citing various IT and BNS provisions has been filed, and Biswas is expected to appear in court today.
The Tripura Human Rights Organisation has openly condemned the arrest, asserting that Biswas faced undue pressure to halt her critiques of the state government yet persisted. Senior advocate Purusthottam Roy Barman has demanded her immediate release, highlighting concerns over freedom of expression.
