The tragic death of a 22-year-old BDS student in Kerala has brought to light the persistent issue of casteism in the state's higher education institutions. CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan emphasized the gravity of the situation, urging a collective fight against such discrimination.

At a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, Govindan called for the arrest of those involved in the suspected suicide of Nithin Raj, who was critically injured after a fall from a college building. The incident, which occurred in Kannur, has cast a spotlight on deep-rooted caste issues in professional colleges.

Senior CPI(M) leader A K Balan supported Govindan's stance, stating that caste discrimination had long plagued the dental college where the incident occurred. Balan criticized attempts to divert the issue towards loan-related matters, urging a closer examination of institutional failures.
