Tension in the Strait: Indian Officer among Crew Seized by Iran

An India-bound container ship, 'Epaminondes', was seized by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Strait of Hormuz, causing distress among the crew, including Sanjay Mahar, an officer from Rajasthan. His family conveyed their concerns on Friday as they confirmed his safety despite tense exchanges during the interception.

The vessel was under the Liberian flag and had waited near the Strait for days. Firing began as soon as it attempted to proceed to Mundra port in Gujarat, according to Mahar's family. They are now appealing to the government for diplomatic intervention to ensure the return of all Indian crew members.

Local authorities have been approached by Mahar's family, urging escalation of the matter to top government officials for resolving the situation. The vessel's crew includes individuals from various nations, and Mahar had left for duty in Saudi Arabia 20 days prior to the incident.
