Odisha Boosts Accessibility in Higher Education for 'Divyang' Students

In a significant step towards inclusivity, the Odisha government has announced plans to distribute aids and appliances to 'divyang' students in higher educational institutions across the state. Officials confirmed this initiative on Wednesday, which aims to make education more accessible for students with disabilities.

Each participating institution will be equipped with three wheelchairs, as part of the state's commitment to support 'divyang' students. To ensure smooth implementation, regional and deputy directors of education have been appointed as district nodal officers. These officers will coordinate closely with district social security officers (DSSOs) to oversee the distribution process.

Nodal officers are tasked with collecting data on disabled students from institutions and collaborating with DSSOs for data verification. Following verification, assistive devices will be distributed to eligible beneficiaries. This initiative will be monitored collaboratively by the departments of higher education, social security, and empowerment of people with disabilities, cementing a comprehensive support system for students in need.
