Panic buying of petrol and diesel, fueled by rumors of a price increase, disrupted fuel distribution in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district, officials reported Friday.
District Magistrate Anjani Kumar Singh confirmed that the rush ensued following word of a potential price hike, leading to a sudden demand surge in both rural and urban areas.
In response, several petrol stations imposed purchase limits while district authorities reassured the public of adequate supplies and coordinated efforts to curb hoarding.
