Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, has called for the expedited completion of automatic testing stations (ATS) designated for commercial vehicles. In alignment with the Centre's directives on automated fitness evaluations, the state is establishing 53 such stations, of which seven have already been completed.

During a meeting at his official Mumbai residence, Fadnavis emphasized the importance of these stations in ensuring automated and accurate vehicle fitness checks. This initiative, set to replace manual inspections by April 2025, aims to enhance transparency while reducing human intervention.

Delays in operationalizing these facilities have led to challenges for transport offices, prompting discussions with the Centre to resolve access issues. Maharashtra is keen to meet its goal of functional ATS by August-end, as part of a broader push towards improved vehicle safety.
