The Maharashtra government has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tatya Saheb Kore Warana Co-operative Navshakti Nirman Sanstha Ltd for the development of three pumped storage hydropower projects. This initiative, involving an investment of Rs 5,200 crore, aims to generate 1,100 MW of power and create approximately 1,100 jobs.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, present at the signing, emphasized the importance of these projects amid the rapid expansion of data centers, which is expected to increase the state's power demand significantly, particularly for renewable energy. He highlighted that these efforts will enable energy storage at scale and stabilize the national grid.
This ambitious project involves building reservoirs where water can be stored and later released to generate electricity when necessary. The Kumbhi and Kadvi projects will be located across Kolhapur and Sindhudurg districts. The state is banking on these projects to bolster its renewable energy footprint and meet future energy demands.
