In a strategic move, IndiGo has announced the deployment of its long-range narrow-body Airbus A321XLR aircraft for nonstop flights between Delhi and Istanbul from April 19. This change marks a significant upgrade from the Airbus A320neo, previously requiring a technical halt at Jeddah.
The enhanced range, fuel efficiency, and cabin comfort of the A321XLR are expected to bolster IndiGo's international presence, enabling the airline to tap into new long-haul markets. With over 50 international destinations available through a codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines, IndiGo aims to offer seamless connectivity to its passengers.
However, the airline's wet-lease agreement with Turkish Airlines, allowing the use of Boeing 777 aircraft, has faced scrutiny due to geopolitical tensions between Turkey and India. The Indian government has directed IndiGo to end this arrangement by February 2026. The introduction of Airbus A321XLR also marks the debut of a dual-class configuration on this route, offering 183 Economy and 12 IndiGoStretch seats.
