On Wednesday, IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, unveiled updated fuel surcharges that will affect both domestic and international airfares due to a spike in jet fuel prices. The charges, which range from Rs 275 to Rs 10,000, are aimed at mitigating the impact of rising Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) costs.
The announcement follows a partial 25% hike in domestic ATF prices by the government, intended to ease operational costs for airlines. IndiGo expressed gratitude for the government's timely intervention, which has prevented a more drastic surge in airfare costs.
While IndiGo's surcharges focus on maintaining customer affordability, international operations face a significant cost burden due to doubled ATF prices. The airline will continue to monitor the situation, adjusting fares as necessary. Other carriers, such as Air India and Akasa Air, have yet to announce changes.
