The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) took legal action against the Trump administration on Tuesday, claiming that nearly $60 million in funding for a crucial New York City subway project was unjustly withheld.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, argues that the U.S. Transportation Department suspended payments for the $7.7 billion Second Avenue Subway development at the onset of last fall's government shutdown.
New York's Governor Kathy Hochul criticized the funding halt, asserting that it jeopardizes essential infrastructure investments. She accused Trump of using the funding pause as political leverage against local leaders, echoing previous funding disputes over other critical projects like the Hudson Tunnel.
