Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, raised serious allegations against the current government's approach to gig workers' rights on Tuesday. In a Facebook post, he emphasized that the labour, dignity, and safety of these workers are not prioritized by the administration.

Gandhi shared how, after meeting with gig workers, he brought their pressing issues to the government, yet received no answers regarding their welfare. Specifically, there was no response to questions about minimum wages, accident statistics, or measures against discrimination and challenges faced by female workers.

According to Gandhi, over 20 million gig workers are expected soon, but only a fraction are registered for social security or insurance schemes. He criticized the government for not ensuring fair income and basic security for these workers, highlighting pervasive issues of caste-based discrimination and lack of basic amenities.
