The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sanctioned two significant railway multitracking projects worth Rs 4,474 crore, aiming to improve rail infrastructure in West Bengal and Jharkhand. These initiatives seek to boost efficiency, alleviate congestion, and fortify connectivity across the region.
The projects are aligned with PM Modi's vision for a New India, focusing on multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency through strategic planning. They promise to enhance economic activity, create employment opportunities, and support sustainable transport. Covering 192 km, they will impact over 147 lakh people across 5,652 villages.
Additionally, these developments are expected to augment freight capacity by 31 MTPA, benefiting industries like coal, steel, and cement. The move is also environmentally significant, projected to cut down oil imports and CO2 emissions, thus contributing to India's climate goals and furthering tourism by facilitating access to renowned tourist spots.
