Bengaluru's LPG Crisis: A Call for Action

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has appealed to the Union government for immediate intervention to resolve the shortage of commercial LPG cylinders affecting Bengaluru's hotels and restaurants. He warned that the crisis threatens to halt operations at these crucial establishments, impacting both students and working professionals reliant on their services.

In a letter to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Siddaramaiah highlighted the unintended consequences of the March 9 order, which prioritized domestic LPG supply. Although the order intended to ensure household gas availability, it's inadvertently causing a commercial LPG deficit in Bengaluru, he explained.

The chief minister cited concerns from local hotels and restaurant associations unable to secure needed supplies. As a solution, he urged for directives to oil marketing companies to restore distribution, emphasizing the severe effect the shortage has on the city’s food service sector and community events reliant on consistent LPG supply.
