The hospitality sector in Mumbai and various other Indian regions is on edge due to an acute shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, essential for everyday operations in hotels and restaurants. If the situation remains unresolved, numerous establishments may face shutdowns within mere days, industry representatives have warned.
The supply issue has intensified due to the government's revised priority order on domestically produced natural gas, now prioritizing LPG alongside CNG and piped gas. This reallocation has created significant disturbances for businesses relying on market-priced commercial LPG, raising alarms throughout Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and beyond.
Pradeep Shetty, Vice President of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India, emphasized the urgency, stating that viable alternatives like electric cooking aren't currently feasible due to high costs and infrastructural demands. Industry leaders are now calling for immediate action from authorities to restore the supply, as prolonged disruptions could severely impact local tourism and smaller eateries.
