India's broadband landscape is on the brink of a major milestone, with nearly a billion users by the end of September 2025. TRAI data indicates a rise to 995.63 million users, up from 989.58 million in August, marking a 0.61% growth. This increase highlights the deepening digital footprint across urban and rural regions.

The expansion in broadband connections accompanies a broader trend in the telecommunications sector, with total telephone and wireless subscriptions also climbing. As reported by TRAI, telephone subscribers increased from 1,224.54 million at the end of August to 1,228.94 million by September, which is a growth rate of 0.36%.

Reliance Jio continues to dominate as the top wireless broadband provider with 492.27 million subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 300.62 million. The market remains highly concentrated among the top five providers, accounting for 99.99% of the market. The rise in both wireless and wireline connections points to a concerted growth across all facets of India's telecom industry, with urban and rural tele-density also on the rise.
