The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced plans on Wednesday to launch Network Survey Vehicles (NSV) across 23 states to cover 20,933 km of national highways. The initiative is designed to gather comprehensive data on road inventory and pavement condition, aiming to significantly improve the commuter experience.

According to an official statement, the insights gained from the NSV surveys will identify deficiencies in road upkeep, enabling NHAI to implement targeted corrective actions for better maintenance. The collected data will be processed through NHAI’s AI-based Data Lake portal, where experts will examine it to formulate actionable insights.

This data collection will follow the Government of India's guidelines, collected before project commencement and subsequently every six months. Additionally, NHAI has called for bids from qualified companies to support the implementation of this initiative, aiming to enhance road asset management strategically.
