India has witnessed a substantial rise in the import of telecom instruments from China, reaching USD 6,371 million in the fiscal year 2023-24, up from USD 5,553 million in 2019-20, according to a statement made to Parliament.

The Minister of State for Communications, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, highlighted that overall imports in this category surged from USD 13,333 million to USD 17,010 million over the same period.

In response, the Indian government is actively promoting domestic telecom manufacturing through measures such as the Public Procurement order aimed at giving preference to locally produced goods. Additionally, initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive Scheme seek to bolster the sector further.
