NITI Aayog's Frontier Tech Hub on Wednesday revealed a strategic roadmap designed to establish India as a global frontrunner in advanced manufacturing. Unveiled by Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, the roadmap titled 'Reimagining Manufacturing: India’s Roadmap to Global Leadership in Advanced Manufacturing' aims to leverage frontier technologies to enhance India's manufacturing competitiveness.
The roadmap, developed in collaboration with CII and Deloitte, identifies key technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Advanced Materials, Digital Twins, and Robotics as critical enablers. It outlines strategies to elevate the manufacturing sector's contribution to India's GDP to over 25% by 2035 while creating more than 100 million jobs. Additionally, it positions India to become one of the top three global hubs for advanced manufacturing.
Highlighting the urgency of adopting these technologies, the roadmap warns of potential economic losses totaling USD 270 billion by 2035 and USD 1 trillion by 2047 if critical technologies are not embraced. BVR Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog, emphasized the need for rapid, transformative changes to achieve these ambitious goals. Maharashtra was commended for leading the charge in aligning with the National Mission on Manufacturing.
