In a historic move, British go-karting prodigy Harry Williams has become the youngest ever member of Formula One champions McLaren's Driver Development Programme at just 11 years old. This milestone surpasses that of Ella Hakkinen, daughter of legendary F1 champion Mika Hakkinen, who joined at 14.
McLaren's development programme is a proven breeding ground for future world champions, having produced stars like Lewis Hamilton, the most successful driver in Formula One history with seven titles, and current titleholder Lando Norris. Hamilton’s journey with McLaren began when he was only 13, back in 1998.
McLaren's chief business affairs officer, Alessandro Alunni Bravi, emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent, stating, "Our goal is to build a consistent pipeline, laddering into our race programmes in F1, IndyCar, and the World Endurance Championship for many years to come, and adding Harry as a talented young karter demonstrates this."
