British heavyweight Lawrence Okolie has failed a doping test ahead of his scheduled fight against France's 2016 Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka in Paris this weekend, announced event promoter Queensberry on Tuesday.

According to a statement from Queensberry, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) reported the adverse finding just days before the fight. Okolie, 33, a former world champion at bridgerweight and cruiserweight, explained that the failed test was due to treatment for an elbow injury sustained during training.

Okolie took to social media to express his hope that a thorough investigation will vindicate him. He remains focused on securing an opportunity to contend for the WBC heavyweight title, held by Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk, with Germany’s Agit Kabayel holding the interim belt.
