Olympic Gold Medalist Victoria Carl Suspended Over Doping Test
Victoria Carl, a gold medal-winning cross-country skier, received an 18-month suspension following a positive test for clenbuterol. The suspension, announced by Germany's anti-doping agency, stems from a failed out-of-competition doping test. Carl claims she unknowingly took the banned substance through prescribed cough medicine.
Olympic cross-country skier Victoria Carl, known for her impressive feats which include a gold medal, is facing an 18-month suspension. The German Sports Arbitration Court, on the basis of a positive clenbuterol test, announced the decision.
This recent development was confirmed by Germany's anti-doping agency. The ruling accounts for a provisional suspension which began last year. Carl's promising athletic career hit a setback as she was unable to compete in this year's Milano Cortina Games.
Controversy surrounds the case as Germany's ski association and Carl argue the cough medicine she took was delivered mistakenly by untrained personnel, impacting her test results negatively. An appeal can be filed at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
