Phil Mickelson, the celebrated three-time Masters champion, has announced his withdrawal from this year's tournament due to a personal health matter involving his family. This unexpected decision comes following his participation in only one of five LIV Golf events this year.
In another development, fellow golf luminary Tiger Woods has also decided to take an indefinite leave to address personal issues after an arrest in Florida for suspected DUI. This sets the stage for a historic break, as both icons will be absent from the Masters for the first time since 1994.
Mickelson, who has previously been vocal against the PGA Tour's practices, tied for 48th in a recent event in South Africa after missing the initial LIV Golf events. Meanwhile, the Masters is set to begin with ongoing anticipation and a 91-man field.
