Maharashtra celebrated thrilling victories as local players Madhurima Sawant and Sonal Patil upset their higher-seeded opponents during the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Open's opening round on Wednesday.
Sonal Patil showcased impressive resilience by defeating Germany's fifth-seed Anastasiya Kuparev in a grueling match, finishing with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory after more than two hours of tenacious play.
Among other achievements, wildcard entrant Madhurima Sawant dominated Netherlands’ eighth-seed Emma Van Poppel, winning decisively 6-3, 6-2, while top-seeded and second-seeded players maintained their expected performance.
