Chelsea FC Suffers Historic Financial Loss Amid Revenue Rise

Chelsea FC has disclosed a pre-tax loss of £262.4 million for the 2024-25 season, setting a record for the largest annual loss in English soccer history. The previous record stood at £194.9 million, posted by Manchester City in the 2010-11 season.

The London club's revenue rose to £490.9 million by June 2025; however, increased operating expenses, particularly due to higher matchday costs from European football participation, outweighed these gains. Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League and secured the Europa Conference League title during this period.

In contrast, Chelsea reported a profit of £128.4 million in the 2023-24 season, driven by the sale of their women's team and enhanced broadcasting revenues. Chelsea’s statement highlighted that despite higher revenues from their Club World Cup participation and Premier League broadcasts, overall costs led to the deficit.
