The Philippines and North Korea have clinched their places in next year's Women's World Cup in Brazil, thanks to their stellar performances in the Asian Cup playoffs on Thursday.
In an impressive display at Robina Stadium on the Gold Coast, Angela Beard and Jaclyn Sawicki propelled the Philippines to a 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan, ensuring their second consecutive World Cup appearance.
North Korea followed suit as Hong Song-Ok's hat-trick and Kim Kyong-yong's goal led to a 4-0 win against Taiwan, marking their return to the World Cup for the first time since 2011. Uzbekistan and Taiwan still have a chance to qualify through the inter-confederation play-offs.
