Philippines Reaffirms Sovereignty: Rejects Beijing's South China Sea Claim

The Philippines has firmly rejected Beijing's assertion of sovereignty over the South China Sea, challenging a claim by China's embassy regarding the Scarborough Shoal. Manila's foreign ministry emphasized that maritime claims must follow international standards and legal frameworks.
Rogelio Villanueva, spokesperson for the Philippine foreign ministry, stressed the nation's longstanding sovereignty over both the Scarborough Shoal and islands within the Spratly archipelago. The standoff continues between Manila and the Chinese embassy as both countries vie for control of the strategic shoal.
Noteworthy, the Philippines achieved a significant legal victory at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in 2016, which invalidated China's extensive claims over the South China Sea—a decision that Beijing refuses to accept.
