FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced having met with U.S. President Donald Trump, who expressed his willingness to welcome Iran’s participation in the 2026 Soccer World Cup, co-hosted by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Despite Iran's absence from a summit for World Cup participants in Atlanta, Trump told Politico he has no qualms about Iran's participation.

Infantino revealed that during their talks, President Trump reiterated Iran's welcome in the tournament. Trump described Iran as a "very badly defeated country" but acknowledged the importance of events like the FIFA World Cup to unite people worldwide.

Despite qualifying, concerns linger over Iran's participation due to regional tensions. Iran is set to compete in Group G alongside Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand, with matches in Los Angeles and Seattle. A potential showdown with the U.S. could occur in Dallas on July 3, depending on group outcomes.
