Pisa fired coach Alberto Gilardino on Sunday after just one win in 23 games in Serie A. Saturday's 3-1 loss at home to Sassuolo proved to be Gilardino's last match, with Pisa above last-place Hellas Verona on goal difference and four points from safety. Pisa said it was a ''humanly and professionally difficult'' decision and that it would announce Gilardino's replacement ''in the next few hours.'' The 43-year-old Gilardino took over in June to replace Filippo Inzaghi, who left Pisa after steering the team back to Serie A for the first time in more than three decades. However, Gilardino managed just one win, 11 draws and 11 defeats in the top flight this season. It's the latest coaching change in Serie A this season after moves at Juventus, Genoa, Fiorentina and Atalanta.
