The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has provided an update on Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer's injury, revealing positive progress following a significant hit to his left lower rib cage during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney.
A repeat scan conducted on October 28 indicated considerable improvement in Iyer's fitness, with the BCCI hopeful about his recovery trajectory. Despite this, the cricketer's availability for the South Africa ODIs, slated to commence on November 30, remains uncertain.
Iyer suffered a blunt abdominal injury that lacerated his spleen with internal bleeding on October 25 during the match. The BCCI Medical Team, collaborating with specialists from Sydney and India, will continue to closely monitor his recovery process. The injury occurred as Iyer executed a commendable diving catch, leading to him landing awkwardly on his left side.
