The Supreme Court on Monday mandated that elections for the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) be conducted within a 12-week timeframe, under the oversight of former Chief Election Commissioner A K Joti.
A bench led by Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran acknowledged A K Joti's agreement to supervise the JKCA elections. They emphasized that the elections would proceed according to the JKCA's constitution, whether registered or not. The bench also instructed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to provide full support to facilitate the elections under Joti's supervision.
In June 2021, the BCCI implemented the JKCA's new constitution, drafted with the involvement of a sub-committee comprising Brigadier Anil Gupta, former cricketer Mithun Manhas, and senior advocate Sunil Sethi, underscoring the association's commitment to adherence and governance.
