Elena Rybakina claimed the final spot for the WTA Finals after overcoming Victoria Mboko with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the Pan Pacific Open quarterfinals Friday.
This victory sets up a semifinal clash in Tokyo against Linda Noskova from the Czech Republic. Rybakina, representing Kazakhstan, advanced ahead of Mirra Andreeva for the prestigious eighth spot in next month's lucrative WTA Finals in Saudi Arabia.
“It's great to qualify and play more matches against top players,” said Rybakina. The tournament, scheduled for November 1-8, will see Rybakina join the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff, the defending champion, who took home $4.8 million in last year's event in Riyadh.
