Unnati Hooda's aspirations at the French Open Super 750 were dashed as she succumbed to world number two Wang Zhiyi in the pre-quarterfinals, bowing out with a 14-21, 11-21 defeat on Thursday.

The 18-year-old struggled to challenge the highly-seeded opponent, marking her second straight loss to Zhiyi following a close encounter at the Singapore Open.

In other setbacks for India, mixed doubles pair Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde fell to world-ranked number five duo Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue, reflecting a challenging tournament for the Indian contingent after men’s doubles duo Shetty and Rankireddy's elimination.
