Shai Hope delivered a masterful half-century that propelled the West Indies to a thrilling tie and a subsequent one-run victory in the Super Over against Bangladesh in the second ODI of the three-match series held on Tuesday in Mirpur. This victory has now leveled the series at 1-1.
In an unprecedented move, the West Indies employed an all-spin attack across 50 overs, a first in ODI history. After Bangladesh opted to bat first, spinners Akael Hosein, Roston Chase, Gudakesh Motie, Khary Pierre, and Alick Athanaze each bowled 10 overs, exploiting the dry and cracked surface similar to the first ODI. Soumya Sarkar's steady 45, complemented by a partnership for the seventh wicket between captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Rishad Hossain's rapid-fire 39*, enabled Bangladesh to post 213/7.
WI's bowling effort was led by Motie's 3/65, supported by Athanaze's stingy 2/14 and Hosein's 2/41. During the chase, WI encountered early setbacks but were revived by Hope and Justin Greaves. Key contributions late in the innings saw WI level the scores at 213. In the Super Over, Hope facilitated a ten-run total, which proved just enough as Bangladesh fell short, managing only 9/1.
