In a significant leadership shuffle, fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has replaced Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan's one-day international captain. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the change, citing the need for improved team performance after a challenging period under Rizwan's captaincy.

The decision comes as Pakistan engages in a test series against South Africa, with three ODIs scheduled for the next month. Afridi's appointment was confirmed at a meeting in Islamabad, which included key figures like white-ball head coach Mike Hesson and Director High Performance Aqib Javed.

While Afridi had a brief stint as Pakistan's Twenty20 captain last year, details of his tenure have not been disclosed. His previous leadership experience might play a pivotal role as the team looks to regain its foothold in international cricket.
