Tiger Deaths Surge: A Call for Action in Madhya Pradesh

In a worrying trend, Madhya Pradesh—a state known for its substantial tiger population—has seen a rise in tiger deaths, bringing the toll this year to 23 as of Friday. The latest fatalities include a cub in Kanha Reserve and an adult tiger in Balaghat district.

Madhya Pradesh, which boasts the highest number of tigers nationally with 785 reported in a 2022 census, has faced nine tiger deaths since April. Officials report the loss of two cubs from the same tigress, suspected to be starving due to lack of maternal care.

Conservationists, including Ajay Dubey, are raising the alarm over inadequate monitoring and patrolling, calling for forest officials to be held accountable. The deaths underscore severe challenges in maintaining wildlife habitats and ensuring the safety of endangered tigers.
