Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that Shekha Lake in Aligarh is now recognized as the state's 12th Ramsar site. This designation reinforces the ecological balance and provides local livelihood support.
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav declared the Ramsar status, increasing India's total to 99 sites. This recognition underscores the significance of wetlands for biodiversity and climate security.
This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for environmental conservation. Ramsar sites protect wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention to safeguard habitats crucial for migratory birds and biodiversity.
