The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an increase in heatwave days across the Indo-Gangetic plains, eastern coastal states, Gujarat, and Maharashtra this year, according to Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra.
To combat this, IMD is disseminating information via various channels such as WhatsApp, government protocols, and display boards, aiming at vulnerable groups including outdoor workers and regions with limited technology access.
Heatwave conditions are expected to notably affect southern West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and adjoining areas. IMD continues to provide heatwave outlooks and daily district-level warnings to manage these annual weather variations.
