The Karnataka legislative council has taken decisive action by passing two landmark bills that address pressing urban and administrative issues. The first bill focuses on the regulation of outdoor advertisements, enabling municipal authorities to levy taxes on hoardings and billboards, which promises improved urban aesthetics and enhanced revenue streams for local bodies.
The second piece of legislation empowers the Police Establishment Board to transfer officers guilty of misconduct before their two-year tenure expires, thereby curbing corruption within the police force. This amendment is poised to expedite disciplinary processes and diminish political interference, ultimately leading to a more efficient police force.
In addition, the council discussed a report on regional imbalances, identifying critical areas for development in North Karnataka. Despite significant financial investments, disparities persist, especially in the Kalaburagi and Belagavi divisions, underscoring the need for targeted interventions.
