In a significant development for Mizoram's capital, Chief Minister Lalduhoma has inaugurated the Aizawl city beautification project. This venture seeks to modernize 17 hectares of the city's central area, previously an Assam Rifles' base. The project underscores a strategic focus on public utility, aiming to turn the city's core into a vibrant communal space.
Lalduhoma emphasized the project's collective origin, crafted through an advisory committee of diverse stakeholders. He expressed hope that it would become a welcoming area for all ages—children, youth, and the elderly—and urged public cooperation. The chief minister also called for contractors to work with patriotic commitment beyond profit motives.
Officials confirmed the state government has sanctioned Rs 23 crore to get the project underway. This funding will enable the construction of a new road and the widening of an existing street, to be overseen by the Public Works Department (PWD).
